The last piece of chocolate cake that clings to the box does not stand a chance. It must be the effects of a terrible cold I had during the weekend, prompting me to scoop up the last piece of chocolate cake with bare hands out of its stifling container. Free at last from the four corners of packaging and into the open arms of a grateful chocoholic. The night before, I slept for four straight hours because of headaches and chills and missed dinner in the process. As I regained strength, I requested for some soup and while waiting for it, watched Mom eat a delectable-looking chocolate cake. Sensing the triggering of the I-need-to-eat-some-of-that alarm, she left some for me. Sugar do not mix with a possible soar throat but a good mother anticipates such irrationality.
Though the instant noodles-egg combination is no miraculous chicken soup, I felt better, more so because of the promise of chocolate goodness. As I took a bite, I almost screamed because it is one of the best-tasting chocolate cake I had. Suspicious floated. I think I read something about this cake.
Next morning, I check out the box and the suspicions the night before turned ito a moment of truth. The label read: Ms. Polly’s Chocolate Cake. Indeed, I read something about it after spot.ph declared the chocolate cake as the best in Metro Manila. Oooh. This explains the delighted taste buds as each piece crumbled into an unforgettable dessert experience.
The chocolate cake does not look outstanding. It looks, for lack of better term, simple. As if its creator decided not to attract customers with additional trimmings and complicated designs. If it lacks visual sex appeal then it makes up for its taste that can be described as confident, rich and scrumptious. The cake is moist, the icing is just enough, the filling is perfect and the complete product is perfect an uncompromising delectable treat.
Remember Goldilock’s best-selling Choco Slice? The perennial school recess treat shares some qualities with this chocolate cake except for the taste. It is generous and uncomplicated. The icing and filling is spread throughout with just the right amount of thickness enveloping the oh-so moist cake like a good blanket. Devoid of artful chocolate shards or delicate sugar blossoms, Ms. Polly’s Chocolate Cake highlights the importance of keeping it real. Make a chocolate cake and highlight the chocolate, the cake and its magical combination.
Getting ranked as the best in a metropolis teeming withconic and upstart dessert establishments is an amazing accomplishment. But that is just the kind of compliment one receives if one puts premium on taste. Nothing else matters if it is delicious. Nothing else.
