Food Trip: Ramen X

Instant Noodles Nation is one of the more troubling description about the regular food intake of Filipinos because it is considered sodium-packed ticking health bombs. But the continuing expansion of ramen establishments is an acceptable development. Call it the good noodles. Ramen X is one such establishment and one of the latest kids in the Trinoma food bloc.  The genius of Ramen X is simple: affordable and delicious food. As gas prices continue soaring and politicians keep on fooling us, a delicious bowl of steaming hot ramen noodles is an excellent escape. The reason: it is soul food. Or as Ramen X puts it, “Ramen is the new soul food.” Hear, hear! In its Facebook Page, “Ramen X guarantees that each Ramen Bowl consumed will be accompanied by a hopeful sigh followed by a satisfied burp from each of our customers.” I am quite conscious with burping in public so let me reciprocate with a blog post.

CHIKUWA 7 RAMEN

Php129

Three special ramen dishes are available in Ramen X: Kimchi Ramen, Oishi Ramen and Chikuwa 7 Ramen. Since my standard for ordering food is pick the one with the most unusual name, I naturally selected the soy-based Chikuwa 7. The name reminded me of old movies like Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven. As if the ramen dish is going to obliterate hunger with murderous glee.  Chikuwa is some sort of tube-like Japanese food made from starch, sugar and surimi. Once the mixture is complete, it is wrapped around a bamboo or metal stick to achieve its distinct tube shape. Chikuwa are either steamed, broiled or included in soup-based dish such as this one. Like any ramen, the bottomline of Chikuwa 7 is the soup. If the soup sucks then there is no point in ordering one. You’ll not be disappointed with Chikuwa 7 because the rich and tasteful soup  is served piping hot. The noodles are also perfect. As for the seven pieces of chikuwa, I cannot be more satisfied because I am a chikuwa fan. For me, the only thing better than seven pieces of chikuwa is eight pieces or more. Now, what makes Chikuwa 7 REALLY GOOD is its TERRIFIC SERVING SIZE and AFFORDABILITY. Goodness. Goodness. Goodness.

FRIED GYOZA

Php49

Call this one as a back-up in alleviating personal hunger. Look at the size. Look at the price. Goodness. Goodness. Goodness.

RATING: A-
